New Backing Track: House of the Lord (Phil Wickham)

Worship leader and song writer Phil Wickham is well known for “Battle Belongs” and “This is Amazing Grace“. His latest release is the fantastic upbeat praise song House of the Lord, co-written with Jonathan Smith.

Our Worship Backing Band arrangement is nice and congregational but creates lots of room for optional adlibs and joyful expression. Listen to a 30 second sample in the video above and Phil Wickham’s original below.

House of the Lord is released today as a MultiTrack and Split Track.

Using Stem Tracks and MultiTracks in Worship: An Independent Guide by a Worship Leader

Despite having a worship band and being a talented multi-instrumentalist himself, Florida-based worship leader Shawn Thomas has been using MultiTracks in the services he leads for the last five years.

When talking to musicians in other churches Shawn realised that there was a lot of confusion and misinformation about MultiTracks. He created this video which does a great job in explaining how MultiTracks work and how he uses them in his church. And this was NOT a paid endorsement!

He blows the myth that they are only for high-tech people, and also that they are something that only big churches use.

He explains that MultiTracks are a far cry from the ‘canned’ music you might think them to be and goes into detail about how you can easily use them to keep a truly live feel to your worship – keeping a song going by repeating a chorus or play a section with instruments only while you lead a time of prayer.

Shawn also talks about why he chooses to use Worship Backing Band rather than the other MultiTrack providers. And no, we have not paid him to create this video!

New backing track: God So Loved (We The Kingdom)

New release: acoustic arrangement of We The Kingdom’s God So Loved

God So Loved is a great up-tempo, toe-tapping praise song from the group ‘We The Kingdom’ known for their hit ‘Holy Water’.

When we heard their fantastic live/acoustic arrangement we knew this was a track we needed to get into our repertoire quickly. The song is hugely popular at the moment featuring high in the CCLI charts for use in church.

Listen to our audio sample of the song below.

We have emulated We The Kingdom’s own acoustic feel in our Worship Backing Band arrangement in order to leave lots of room for vocal harmonies. Of course if that’s something you struggle with in your church then you can leave our vocal and backing vocal stems in the mix. Worship Backing Band are the only mainstream backing track provider to include vocals – something we know is essential for many small churches with missing musicians.

God So Loved is available in MultiTrack and Split Track formats.

MultiTracks can be played using either our own easy-to-use Transition MultiTrack Player (Mac, PC and iPad) or any DAW such as Ableton, ProTools or GarageBand. Mix, mute or solo any instrument stem, repeat any song section with a single click. They are just like working with a live band and can also be used alongside your musicians to fill out the sound.

Split Tracks are great for smaller churches on a budget. The tracks have fully adjustable vocals and come with on-screen lyrics. Split Tracks are played using any standard MP4 player such as Windows Media Player or VLC.

Brand new free MultiTrack: Magnify

April’s free track, Magnify, comes from the Magnify Worship Collective, a group of musicians and songwriters from the Grand Rapids area of West Michigan. Magnify was written by Forrest Wakeman, a worship leader, Calvin University professor, and frequent player with the Grand Rapids Symphony, for the dedication of his church. The Magnify Worship Collective played and sang on the recording, which offers an upbeat worship anthem with a great message of how we can Magnify our God with our worship and our lives.

The song comes with a free chord chart, the original WAV files for use in a DAW such as Ableton or GarageBand, and Transition Tracks for Worship Backing Band’s Mac/PC or iPad Transition MultiTrack Player.

Unless you are confident with using a DAW such as Ableton or ProTools, you will need a copy of Worship Backing Band’s Mac/PC or iPad Transition MultiTrack Player to play the backing track. MultiTracks are the simplest and least expensive solution to get a full band sound from your worship team, even if you’ve only got a couple of musicians.

5 more brand new MultiTracks and Split Track backing tracks

Ramping up our backing track production schedule we have five more new tracks available now from Worship Backing Band.

These are in both MultiTrack and Split Track format:

See a Victory (Elevation)
One of Elevation Worship’s most popular songs transposed to a lower key and arranged in an order that’s easier to follow and lead for congregational singing. See a Victory with this powerful tune in your order of worship!

What A Friend We Have In Jesus
Enjoy this contemporary worship style arrangement of the traditional hymn What a Friend We Have in Jesus. The Demo Vocal provides an example of a slightly altered melody to change things up a bit, however you can also sing the traditional melody that everyone knows, and it will line up exactly with this arrangement as well.

King of Kings (Hillsong)
The lyrics to this powerful Hillsong ballad tell the story of Christ from birth, through crucifixion, to resurrection – and then climaxes in the celebration of His Church and the freedom and resurrection that lives in all of us. Praise forever to the King of Kings!

RATTLE! (Elevation)
This power-anthem, from Elevation Worship, celebrates God’s and Christ’s power over death and the miracle of resurrection. Our arrangement has been placed in a congregationally friendly key and is streamlined to make it easier to follow for band and team members.

Yes and Amen (Jesus Culture)
Yes and Amen has been recorded by so many Christian artist and worship leaders including Chris Tomlin, Bethel Worship, and Housefires. This arrangement is loosely based on the version released by Jesus Culture which featured one of the songwriters, Chris McClarney. The key has been lowered for easier congregational singing.

Multi-user licenses explained for Worship Backing Band

Here is how the licensing works both for the MultiTrack Player and tracks when you have more than one user.

Licensing more than one user/computer

When we sell you the MultiTrack Player and songs we are selling them to you as an individual or church generally for use on a single computer (but see “Exceptions” below). If you want to put the player and songs on an additional computer we ask that you buy an additional license for the Player and one additional license per song downloaded. You can click through to the links below to buy the licenses retrospectively:

MultiTrack PLAYER multi-user license – This is for when more than one person is downloading the Player to additional Mac/PC devices

MultiTrack TRACKS multi-user license – This is for when more than one person is accessing our MultiTracks

Split Tracks multi-user license – This is for when more than one person is accessing our Split Tracks

The principle is that you pay 50% of the normal cost of the Player and 50% of the normal cost of each song for each additional user.

You can buy the multi-user licenses at any point. So if you buy the track in January and add it to a second computer in March, just buy the license in March.

Please note that the Transition iPad player is not available at a 50% discount. This is because it is sold via the App store where we don’t have control over offering a second user discount.

Exceptions to the rule

We are happy to make an exception whereby THE SAME person uses the computer in the church as they do their personal computer for practise at home. In this instance just one license is required.

iPad users

Because of the way App store purchases (an iCloud IDs) work different users will need to purchase a new Worship Backing Band app if they are using a different iPad to yours.

If the same user has purchased both a Mac/PC Player and the iPad Player then they can use MultiTracks on both Players without further charge. A Multi-user Tracks license would be needed for a second user though. So in principle licenses are generally assigned to individuals.

Why are we charging for multiple users?

We feel that it is fair that the biggest users of the software and tracks pay the largest share. When you buy from Microsoft, you pay a fee to them based on how many computers the software is used on. When you buy songs from iTunes, you are meant to buy one song per user.

Developing our Player, recording the tracks, hosting the files, running the website etc etc have all cost many tens of thousands of pounds/dollars of investment. We’re a small independent business not funded by a ministry or some deep pocketed backer. We really do need to recoup that investment in sales of both the Player and the tracks. And without making some money we simply won’t be able to continue to offer support, develop the player and record new tracks.

The other reason that we charge for multiple use is that we pay a considerable fee to the Publishers of each song that is sold, each time it is downloaded. This is a way of ensuring that the original song writers are honoured for their work.

How do I download the Player/Songs onto multiple computers?

Each purchase comes with a number of download attempts. Use the first for the first computer then login to your account with the second computer and download there. If you run into problems please just contact us. Likewise with the song downloads. You’ll also find that with the songs once you have them downloaded into your first computer (in the Songs folder) you can save them to a memory/USB stick and transfer them to the same folder on your second computer. You can’t do this with the player though – with the player you must download directly from the website.

iPad users use download codes to get songs into their library. Click the link for more information.

What happens when I upgrade my computer?

You are welcome to transfer your license to another computer when you upgrade (please ensure that the Player and tracks are deleted from the original one though). You can follow the procedure described above for downloading. If you need to contact us for a new download link (i.e. you have used all your download attempts up on your previous computer) we will charge you a small admin fee.

Five new backing tracks

We have five brand new tracks available now from Worship Backing Band including the much requested CityAlight’s Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me. If this sells well we will include more CityAlight songs in our catalogue.

Originally sung and performed by Vertical Worship who also recorded the popular Yes I Will – this powerful worship song affirms God’s faithfulness in all things.
  • Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me (CityAlight)
We’ve received many requests for CityAlight music, so we’re excited to add “Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me” to the Worship Backing Band library.  This easy-to-sing melody is accompanied by four verses of inspirational lyrics.
  • Great Things (Phil Wickham)
“Great Things” is another great Phil Wickham hit with easy to sing lyrics and melody combined with a positive and encouraging message.  This arrangement follows the original recording closely, but is transposed to a more congregationally friendly key.
  • The Goodness of God (Bethel)
Famous for his work with Chris Tomlin, this Ed Cash (and others) original is a powerhouse worship ballad sure to encourage congregational worship and singing.
  • We Praise You (Bethel)
“We Praise You” is an uptempo praise song written by well-known worship leaders Matt Redman, Brandon Lake, Brian Johnson, and Phil Wickham. With those writers, you can’t go wrong! Your church will enjoy this catchy and easy to sing selection.

People often ask us to show them how our MultiTracks are used in practice. Below is a really lovely example of how a worship team are using the tracks in real life. The team are playing some of the instruments themselves, muting those stems on the Player. The other MultiTrack stems are kept in to fill the overall sound.

This example, from Church of the Holy SpiritSong in Florida, is obviously from an online service, but you get the idea of how the backing tracks could work in a live service as well. Obviously the team here already has a good mix of instruments but the backing tracks add a little more depth. If you were missing core instruments such as drums or bass the backing track’s role becomes even more crucial.

The song Way Maker is from our most recent batch of MultiTracks.
